Geriatric rehabilitation physiotherapy focuses on improving the mobility, strength, balance and overall functional ability of older adults. The goal is to help seniors perform everyday activities more independently, safely and with greater confidence.
It’s suitable for older adults who have reduced mobility, muscle weakness, balance issues, pain, or difficulty performing daily tasks due to age-related changes or chronic conditions. It also helps prevent falls and supports safer movement.
A therapist will evaluate a senior’s ease of movement, strength, posture, balance and ability to perform everyday tasks like standing, sitting, walking and getting in and out of bed. Based on this, a personalized treatment plan is created.
Treatments may include strength and balance exercises, walking practice, mobility-aid training, posture improvement, functional electrical stimulation, orthotics, home exercise programs and fall prevention education.
The primary aim isn’t to fully restore former health but to help seniors function at their best possible level, enhance independence, improve quality of life and reduce risks such as falls.
